Standing Room Only – Piccadilly Arcade

Ahh – here we have some serious joe. Despite the mint green decor and the rockabilly tunes, this coffee bar oozes seriousness. They have a serious Five Senses house blend, a serious seasonal Single Origin, and some serious brew options – regular, filter, syphon and who knows what else. Despite their smiley demeanour, the baristas are serious about their business too. You can tell that by the small celebrity platform on which they perform their duties. No pretensions about consuming on the premises – the seriously large 4 head machine occupies a significant amount of real estate, precluding any chair/table options. The serious pricing structure reflects the serious nature of the experience here too. That said, this is good coffee – Even if it is a bit serious. 79%

Coffee Live – Equus Arcade

Relatively new coffee bar. Great selection of current gig posters on the wall along with a good selection of reading goods. Seating arrangement not conducive to socializing and the music was a touch loud. Good coffee – Fiore – but could have been a degree or three warmer. 57%

The Story So Far – Cabin Fever

Finally got the blog sorted, so I’ll take the opportunity to add a few past and present Coffee House Reports to get things started.

First and foremost, the sadly and much lamented ex-coffee room that was Cabin Fever in the Bon March Arcade. This little haven of flavour set the standard for the Coffee Experience. Stylishly appointed, just the right amount of seating and the coffee always top notch, this destination coffee emporium sadly closed it’s doors pending a relocation to Shafto Lane. Watch this space for further news. 87%
